We are all awe-struck by the amazing transformation of the Bade Achhe Lagte Hain lead, Ram Kapoor’s weight loss. He shared a series of pictures of his flab-to-fab journey on Instagram and the internet exploded with praises of his journey. Within a day, the post got more than 34,000 likes and had over 2,000 comments congratulating him on the transformation.
It indeed calls for a celebration to see someone take their fitness goals seriously and achieve them. The stars journey indeed is inspirational for everyone trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Here’s Ram Kapoor’s fitness regime that led to this transformation.
Fitness Regime Followed By Ram Kapoor
One can only get healthier by balancing eating right and working out. And that’s exactly what Ram Kapoor did. He started his journey at the age of 43 when he weighed 130 kgs. After a two-year long dedicated effort, he has now managed to shed off nearly 30kgs. He followed a strict diet along with regular high-intensity workout to become the leaner and sexier version of himself.
Ram Kapoor trains not once but twice every day. His day starts with an hour-long heavy-weight training and ends with some serious cardio before he goes to bed. He works out in the morning on an empty stomach which makes his training even more effective.
Ram Kapoor followed a strict diet schedule commonly known as Intermittent Fasting. It is a dietary method which controls the time during which one is allowed to consume food. There are no set guidelines on “what to eat” and “what not to eat”. It rather focuses solely on “when to eat”.
Ram Kapoor’s eating hours were restricted to eight hours from early afternoon to early evening. He could not consume anything except water, coffee and tea for the rest of the 16 hours of the day.
We know many would get inspired by this transformation and would want to try Intermittent Fasting (IF) right away. But before you decide to do that, it is important to know if it would work for you the way it did for the Kasam Se actor.
Fasting has been a popular practice in many cultures and religions. It is said to have benefits like healthy weight loss, a reduction in inflammation, a stronger immune system, a healthier heart, a more focused outlook, and even longer life.
The Health Issues
Forbes reports, “At the European Society of Endocrinology’s annual meeting last year there were claims that fasting every other day to lose weight could have damaging side effects.”
Do you often get irritable if you don’t eat for a long time? If yes, then (IF) is probably not the right way to go for you. The irritability or light-headedness that you feel is because fasting stresses your adrenal glands.
You should rather have regular healthy meals to keep your adrenals nourished and to maintain your blood sugar levels.
Talking about sugar levels, fasting also tends to impair the functioning of insulin, the sugar-regulating hormone. This increase the risks of diabetes and other health issues.
Mental Health At Risk
It is also not good for your mental health. People who stress easy, or are always on fight-or-flight mode should not go for IF. You’d end up really distressed if you do. This is because fasting pressurises your adrenal glands which then releases cortisol, the stress hormone and makes you edgier.
Not just that, your self-confidence goes for a toss if you are unable to follow the restrictions or have a late night craving. And it starts affecting your social life too.
We’d rather have you choose a sustained healthy diet than something so rigorous that you feel tortured.
It is also believed that the effects of such diets fade out once you stop abiding by them. So your fitness journey would become flab-to-fab and then back to flab.
With that said, if you think you have the strength to regulate your mind and body to the extent as Ram Kapoor did without stressing out, you can try Intermittent fasting. Be sure to weigh all the pros and cons first before deciding whether it’s worth it.
