Even though India has been battling with malnutrition and poverty as far as we remember, a new problem has reared it’s ugly head – Obesity. The number of obese people has doubled in India in the last 10 years. It has already reached epidemic proportions and is likely to become the largest health problem India will have to face in recent years.
Indian diets were already carbohydrates heavy and oil-rich. Combined with the recent influx of fast food chains and junk food, the diet of the average Indian has become severely unhealthy. You can never out-exercise a bad diet, no matter how much you try!
A cultural mindset is also still in play, that if you’re plump, you must be prosperous and if you’re prosperous, you don’t need to be physically active. Lifestyles need to change but mindsets need to change first.
