Every year you make resolutions to “get slim”, “get healthy” and “get fit”. And every year you realise you failed. Probably, it’s not your efforts but your Fitness resolutions that are too vague to work.  Or maybe too big to achieve? Running a marathon just off your couch is only inviting trouble 🙂

This New Year, make simple, specific and smart fitness resolutions that might actually get you that fit body you have always dreamt of. Here are a few of them.

Resolution #1: Don’t Take Elevators, Stairs Only

There is no elevator to fitness, you have to take the stairs, literally. Climbing stairs is a great form of cardio exercise. While climbing stairs, you work against gravity lifting your entire body.

As a result, climbing stairs actually burns more calories per minute than jogging. Not only that, it aids in weight loss and tones your legs muscles. So, the next time you find yourself in front of an elevator, move away and take the stairs.

Resolution #2: Train For A 5K Run

One run can change your day and many runs can change your life. Benefits of running are endless. You feel happier, more relaxed and de-stressed.

You may have had a similar resolution earlier, but it didn’t work out because you didn’t set a target. Or maybe your target was way too big. Start small and derive your happiness from the process, not the end goal.

That’s where the five kilometres come into the picture. You may not get there on the first day, but make it your target. Five kilometres may sound a lot, but remember if it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.

Resolution #3: Aim To Hold A Plank For Ninety Seconds

Let’s start with a small test. Get in a push-up position, on your elbows instead of hands and see how long you can hold it. Now, aim to increase the time 3 times in the next 3 months!

The Plank is a great exercise for core-conditioning. It also works your glutes and hamstrings, supports proper posture, and improves balance. But most importantly, it builds strength and endurance.

Start small. Start from a 20-second hold or a 30-second hold but aim for a litle more every day. But aim high and resolve to hold a plank for  90 seconds. Before you know it, the count will go up to 120 seconds and even 5 minutes.

Resolution #4: Eat A Fruit Everyday

Most fruits are naturally low in fat, sodium, and calories. None have cholesterol. Needless to say, they are highly nutritious. Eating fruits as part of an overall healthy diet may reduce the risk of heart diseases, including heart attack and stroke and even against certain types of cancers.

And eating a fruit a day is doable, right? So you definitely have to make this as one of your resolutions. Of course, you can play around with the number of fruits a day. Because someone has rightly said, “You can never go wrong eating more fruit.”

Resolution #5: Start Your Morning With Warm Water, Lemon and Honey

Drinking lemon and honey in warm water as the first thing in the morning gets your system in the fat burning mode. It gets in the action to expel any harmful chemicals and toxins out from the body by regularising the bowel movement and keep the digestive system healthy.

So, what are you waiting for? Resolve to wake up every morning in 2019 to this healthy drink and stay fit in 2019.

So throw out that usual list of new year resolutions that never work like “I will get slim”, “I will work on my body” or “I will lose 20 kgs.” Make a new list. Make your resolutions specific and realistic. And you will see the results yourself.
