Aamir Khan’s transformation journey for Dangal took social media by storm last week. Turns out the movie has more fitness goals to offer to the world. The Dangal girls underwent 9 months of training to portray professional wrestlers on screen. Putting in 6 days a week of rigorous workout is no joke. This kind of commitment toward their debut movie sure makes us believe Aamir’s vibes rubbed off on them pretty well.
In fact, all actors at some point in the process injured themselves severely. In this era of biopics, there is a lot more fitness inspiration coming our way as we see people push their physical limits further and further away.

The lead actress, Fatima Sana Shaikh’s character is based on Geeta Phogat, the first-ever Indian woman wrestler to have qualified for the Olympics.
“The experience has been so strong it has changed my life. Playing Geeta Phogat, the role demanded wrestling skills on my part. I had to go through rigorous physical and mental training,” added the 15-year-old Zaira, a Class 10 student playing the younger Geeta Phogat.
About the Movie
The movie not only shows the Phogat family’s professional success but also their social struggle. Mahavir Phogat, their father and coach was not only brought a women’s wrestling revolution. Bring a revolution in a traditionally male-dominated sport, in a state known for its gender inequality was not easy.
“They were not allowed to fight and I was warned to not bring my girls to the dangals, which the villagers said were a field of boys,” told Mahavir. There were no other girls in the village left to practice with so the Phogat sisters began training with boys. The family faced a lot of opposition from the conservative villagers but eventually rise above it.
