The Best Morning Routines For Guaranteed Success

Everyone’s got their morning rituals, especially the famous and the successful. They’ve likely honed their routines over the years and figured out what suits them the best. All of them have a different morning routine they swear by.

To some, it’s spending time with their loved ones. To others, it might be meditation, journaling, reading the paper and to a large majority, it’s exercise. But the one thing none of them do is roll over, hit the snooze button on the alarm and say, “Screw it, I’ll sleep some more.”

Some people just aren’t morning people naturally, and waking up earlier than their body wants, can throw their circadian rhythm out of whack. As a result, waking up early is not of as important as having a morning routine, which sets the tone for the rest of your day. Here are a few examples of morning habits of highly successful people to help you make the most of your 24 hours.

1. Wake Up From A Good Night’s Sleep

There’s no way you’re going to jump out of your bed and charge into the day like Sir Galahad if you are sleep deprived. There’s just no way. You’ll have to drag your cranky and tired ass off the bed and you have to prepare breakfast (maybe for your kids too), and then dress and groom and you’ll feel like absolute dogshit every step of the way. That’s no way successful people start the day!

So make sure you get in close to 8 hours of sleep every night, regardless of how busy your schedule is. The quality of the sleep you get is equally important. So make an effort to delink yourself from technology for at least an hour before bed, keep the lights low, don’t drink or eat anything which might cause stomach problems and do try to go sleep at the same time every night.

2. Go Get Some Exercise

Your health is important. As long as you feel good, it’ll be all that easier to deal with that alarm.  Just imagine if you start your days with a few minutes of lively dancing, how good you’re going to feel throughout the day. Your metabolic rate also stays enhanced throughout the day. Also, You also won’t end up skipping your daily workout because you’re too tired or busy later in the day.

Former US President Barack Obama gets his daily dose of cardio and weight training in the wee hours of the morning. Ariana Huffington, the founder of the Huffington Post does yoga every morning which sets her tone for the rest of the day. Jack Dorsey, the founder, and CEO of Twitter meditates and follows it up with a 6-mile jog. Remember, the intensity of your workouts and the time you put in isn’t as important as establishing a routine.

3.  Plan Out Your Tomorrows

What’s the best way to reduce stress in the mornings? Make a plan, plan your day out so you aren’t burdened down with uncertainties in the morning. A good plan will help you to visualize your day ahead and it’s a lot better to make these plans the night before than in the early hours of the morning, where your time is running out and your brain isn’t exactly running on all cylinders.

Do not make big decisions in the morning. The fewer decisions you can make, the better. For example, Mark Zuckerberg dresses the same way every day as it’s “one less decision to make.

4. Eat That Frog

No, not literally! Mark Twain once wrote: If the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that that is probably the worst thing that is going to happen to you all day long.”

The frog refers to the biggest task of your day, the task that has been looming over you, robbing you of your peace of mind. I understand that doing the most daunting task first can be … well, daunting! Tackle the big fish first and then you can go through the rest of the day with a much more composed and confident mindset.

You could even start off with a few small tadpoles.

5. Purge Your Brain

Unless you put the things bothering you behind you, you won’t be able to concentrate on your work at hand. So put down whatever’s bothering you on paper. It doesn’t have to be excellent writing, it just has to purge your mind of all troublesome thoughts so you can go about the day with a clear mind. Some people swear by journalling, others swear by meditation or practicing gratitude.

The idea is to let go of whatever’s beyond your control and not let them interfere in your day. Meditation teaches you acceptance, journalling teaches you compartmentalization and gratitude teaches you prioritizing.

6. Spend Time With The Family

Be it the wife and the kids or furry Fido, spending time with your loved ones before you start off your day will guarantee a good mood in the early morning hours. talk about your lives, plan a trip for the future.  Spend time with your kids. They’ll never be like this again.

You don’t want to be the parent who says, ” Oh they grew up so fast. I barely had any time to spend with them.”

7. Have A Hearty Breakfast

This one needs no introduction. We’ve all heard how breakfast is the most important meal of the day and how having the right breakfast can help tone your mood and give you the energy to tackle the challenges of the day. Richard Branson, CEO of the Virgin Groups is well-known for paying attention to his eating habits. He usually has fruit salad and muesli for breakfast.

If you’re pushed for time in the mornings (and who isn’t?), it’s all too common to skip breakfast. But you’ll do yourself a world of good if you don’t. Whole grains, fruit, and slow-release carbohydrates like oatmeal, are all good options.
